Well, the cold snap finally finished, only to be replaced by what seems like weeks of rain. Not that we mind here! This rain helps feed the natural chalk springs that all our watercress grows in, for a natural peppery product. Even the robins stop by for a quick drink.
Last year’s crops have been cleared out, and the new crop is growing well. It’s amazing what a bit of warm, damp weather can do. We grow fresh from seed every year, and can get multiple cuts over the course of the seasons. It’s just a question of which coat to wear or not wear….
Just like us, even the cress likes being tucked in when it’s chilly. https://sunbeamwatercress.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/VID-20230212-WA0000_1.mp4
A lot of people assume watercress is just a summer salad crop, but the beds can be carefully managed and protected even in frost, meaning we can deliver fresh produce to our customers all year round. It also creates some stunning countryside views…….which we cant complain about being out in.
